The Affirm™ laser system is a versatile laser system that can be used to improve the appearance of unwanted lesions on the skin in addition to its anti-aging applications. While this treatment is most commonly performed on the face, it can also be used on the neck, chest, arms and hands. The Affirm™ treatment produces highly effective results with minimal downtime.
This system can be used to treat:

By stimulating the production of new collagen beneath the skin, this treatment helps reduce the appearance of unwanted discolorations, veins and birthmarks on the skin as new skin is formed instead. It is also highly effective in treating stretch marks and leaving the skin looking and feeling younger and more refreshed.
During the Affirm™ laser treatment session, the laser energy removes the pigmented layers of skin with short pulsed light energy delivered to the targeted area. This procedure can be performed in about 15-20 minutes in Dr. Liotta's office. Most patients do not consider this procedure to be painful and compare it to the sensation of a rubber band being snapped on the skin.
Successful results from this procedure are usually achievable after 4-6 treatment sessions, with significant results visible immediately after the first treatment. Patients may experience some redness or a tan appearance of the skin, but these side effects usually go away on their own within a few days. Some mild discomfort may be experience following treatment as well. Full results are visible after side effects have subsided. While many patients can successfully eliminate or improve the appearance of discolorations, pigmentations and other lesions with the Affirm laser, it is important to realize that they may return after treatment.
The Candela Vbeam® Pulsed Dye Laser is an advanced laser system used to remove or significantly improve the appearance of facial spider veins, birthmarks and other unwanted blemishes and discolorations.
The Candela Vbeam® laser was the first system to use pulsed dye laser (PDL) technology, which delivers intense but gentle bursts of yellow light to the targeted areas of the skin, where it is absorbed by the blood vessels. The blood vessels then coagulate (seal) and are absorbed naturally by the body.
The Vbeam® PDL system can be used to treat a wide range of conditions and blemishes on the skin, including:

During the procedure, the system's small handpiece be moved across the targeted area to deliver the laser energy. Some patients may experience mild discomfort during the Vbeam® treatment, similar to the feeling of a rubber band being snapped on the skin. This pain can be minimized by spraying a cooling mist on the skin before each laser pulse, or by administering a topical anesthetic before treatment begins. Dr. Liotta will discuss these options with each patient prior to treatment.
After Vbeam® treatment, patients should avoid scrubbing or rinsing the affected area with abrasive skin cleansers and follow any other post-op instructions provided by Dr. Liotta. Aftercare for treatment can vary depending on the type of lesion that was treated.
This procedure is safe for nearly all patients, even infants with port wine birthmarks. As the inner layers of the skin are heated, the surface is cooled with the Dynamic Cooling Device™ (DCD). After treatment, patients may experience bruising, redness and swelling in the treated area. These side effects are usually mild and go away on their own within a few days. Permanent side effects and scarring may occur, but are considered rare.
